"I mean, campus feels safe"
I mean, I usually feel safe at Iowa State. The campus is well lit, and I do notice police around, especially at night. There are definitely a few spots that feel kind of empty if you're walking late, so I still try to go with friends when I can. Overall, it feels good, just not totally perfect.

"Helped Me Find Real Research Opportunities"
I remember spending a lot of late nights on iastate.edu when I was trying to find undergraduate research opportunities, it made the whole search feel a little less overwhelming. It was easy to move between lab pages, faculty profiles, and project details, even if a few pages looked outdated or hadn’t been updated in a while.
What stuck with me most was seeing how many options were actually out there in engineering, agriculture, science, and tech. I still remember the nervous excitement of finally emailing a professor using the info I found on the site, and it felt like a real first step toward getting involved in research

"I reached out and was surprised how quickly..."
I reached out and was surprised how quickly the admin office replied

"Good variety, but more stressful than I expected"
The programs are actually varied, which I appreciated, and there are some decent options overall. I just didn’t expect the process of sorting through everything to feel so stressful. It ended up being more of a hassle than I thought it would be.

"Surprisingly decent dorm experience"
I lived in the residence halls at Iowa State, and I have to admit, it was better than I expected. The rooms weren’t anything fancy, but they were fine, and the staff was usually helpful when I needed something. It was also easy to meet people, which helped a lot. Having dining places nearby was convenient too. I wouldn’t say everything was great every single day, but overall I felt safe and comfortable, so I can’t really complain too much

"Admissions process felt more stressful than it needed to be"
I applied through iastate.edu, and the admissions process was kind of frustrating. The website itself was fine, but the updates were slow and I kept having to log back in to figure out what was still missing. The emails didn’t help much either because they were vague, with a lot of “we’ll update you soon” type of promises but no real timeline. I did eventually get answers, but it took longer than I expected and made the whole thing more stressful than it should’ve been. Not the worst experience ever, just annoying.

"Easy Enough to Use, with a Few Clunky Spots"
I’ve used Iowa State University a handful of times to look up program info and random campus pages. Overall, it was easy to get around, and the search bar definitely helped when I had No idea where I was supposed to click next.

A few pages felt kind of busy, and some sections didn’t really match the others, so I did have to backtrack once or twice. But it loaded fine for me, and most of the time I found what I needed without too much hassle.

"Not quite what I expected, but decent overall"
I thought this spot in Ames would be a little more convenient based on what I’d heard, so I felt a bit misled when parking turned out to be such a hassle. The campus area itself is nice and calm, but dealing with parking can definitely get annoying

"Decent school, but the cost adds up"
I had a okay experience at Iowa State overall. The campus is nice, and some of the programs are genuinely solid. A few classes felt totally worth it, especially when the professor was actually into teaching and the labs were useful instead of just busywork.

But then there were other semesters where I’d look at the bill and think, wait, where is all this money going? The fees sneak up on you, and some of the huge lecture classes felt really impersonal. Also, random side note, the campus is though, so at least walking around wasn’t depressing.

I wouldn’t say it’s a bad value, just kind of depends on your situation. If you’re in-state or getting scholarships, it makes a lot more sense. Paying full price would be tough for me to recommend, even though there are definitely good parts about the school

"Challenging but actually worth it"
Compared to a lot of classes I’ve taken, these felt a lot more balanced. They definitely weren’t easy, but they were fair, and the professors explained things in a way that made the tougher concepts click. The coursework also felt useful instead of just busywork, and I came out understanding the subject way better than I expected.

"Alumni network hasn’t really helped much"
I was hoping the alumni network would be more useful after graduation, but it feels hands off. Like I said, I expected more help with finding contacts or getting connected to people in my field, but most of what I get is just emails about events or donation requests. I did go to a couple local meetups and they were okay, but like I said, it hasn’t really done much for me overall

"Helpful, but honestly a bit of a headache"
There’s definitely useful stuff on the site, but actually finding it can be way more frustrating than it should be. Some pages look outdated, certain links are confusing to follow, and I’ve had login issues more often than makes sense. Like, it works, but why does it feel this clunky? Make it make sense

"Felt genuinely welcome on campus"
I felt really welcome on campus from the start. It seemed like a diverse place where different people were treated with respect, which I really appreciated. Of course, every campus has things it can improve, but overall my experience felt fair, open, and inviting.

"Really Helpful for Career Stuff"
I used Iowa State career services when I was working on my resume and trying to figure out internships, and it just helped a lot. The staff was easy to talk to and gave me advice that actually made sense, not some overly complicated stuff. The career fairs were well put together too, even if they were kind of packed. Overall, I left feeling way more confident about applying for jobs, like I had a better handle on everything.

"There are plenty of classes to choose..."
There are plenty of classes to choose from, which is nice (I like having options), but the better time slots tend to fill up quickly. Definitely worth signing up early if you have a specific schedule in mind.

"Not gonna lie, game days were hit or miss"
Not gonna lie, I expected a little more energy around game days, especially at a Big 12 school. Sports are definitely a big deal here, and some games were genuinely fun, but the school spirit felt uneven to me. A few had great vibes, while others had a lot of empty seats and just felt kind of flat.

"Bus is solid, parking is kind of a pain"
Getting around campus is easy most days because the buses run often enough and the stops are usually close by. Parking is the part that gets annoying, especially when it’s busy and you’re already kind of rushing. It’s not perfect or anything, but for the most part it works well enough, so I can’t really complain too much..

"Scholarships felt limited to me"
I was really hoping iastate.edu would make the scholarship search a little easier, but it felt kind of scattered. Maybe I didn’t spend enough time digging through every page, but I kept feeling like I was missing something.

There were definitely some scholarships listed, but a lot of them seemed super specific or didn’t offer much money. I also didn’t get very clear updates after applying, though maybe I should’ve followed up more myself. Still, it was frustrating not knowing where things stood.
Other students might have a better experience, and maybe I just didn’t fit the right categories, but for me the scholarship info and application process didn’t end up being very helpful.

"Really welcoming campus community"
I’ve had a really positive experience with iastate.edu and the Iowa State campus community. People have been easy to talk to, and I never felt like I had to search too hard to find a club, event, or group that sounded interesting. One weird detail I still remember is seeing someone hand out tiny rubber ducks at an event for no obvious reason, and somehow that kind of sums up the campus vibe for me.

The professors and other students have generally been willing to help if you actually ask, which made everything feel a lot less intimidating at first. It’s not perfect, obviously, but the friendly community feeling has been one of the things I’ve appreciated most

"There were definitely some internship options out there..."
There were definitely some internship options out there, so it wasn’t totally hopeless, but the support felt kind of hit or miss. Sometimes I’d get useful info and feel like things were moving, and then other times replies took forever and it got frustrating. Overall, not the worst experience, but also not as smooth as I expected
